Volunteers from the Australian Mutuals Foundation kindly rolled up their sleeves to lend a hand at the 2023 Peter Pan Summer Op-Shop, held Wednesday 8th November – Sunday 12th November at Paddington RSL. This bi-annual clothing drive sees locals, bargain hunters and fashion-enthusiasts eager to get great deals on pre-loved and vintage designer wear, all in the name of a great cause supporting the vital work of Barnardos Australia and their specialist programs.
For almost 80 years, the Peter Pan Op-Shop has brought in donations from everyday Aussies alongside designer brands with proceeds from this year’s event helping to support the Barnardos Australia Beyond Barbed Wire Program - a specialist program which focuses on supporting incarcerated mothers, helping them prepare for their return to their children, families, and communities. Over $50,000 was raised at the Peter Pan Summer Op-Shop which will help fund housing for those supported by the Barbed Wire Program.
Over five days, our volunteers supported the event by helping to set up, assist with on-the-day selling, and pack down. Fundraising events such as the Peter Pan Op Shop can provide a wonderful opportunity for the supporters of the Australian Mutuals Foundation to demonstrate corporate social responsibility, as well as enabling volunteers to network with others from the Mutuals sector while enjoying a rewarding day helping the community.
