The Peter Pan Winter Op Shop raises funds for Australian Mutuals Foundation’s partner, Barnardos Australia, and the three-day sale event is a major fundraiser. It’s also a highlight for Sydney’s fashion lovers, with pre-loved and vintage designer labels on offer at bargain prices, while the proceeds raised help to support the vital work of Barnardos’.
The fundraiser raised over $62,000 and was well-supported with volunteers from the Australian Mutual Bank and Unity Bank kindly lending a hand to help to showcase the beautiful clothing and accessories on offer. The funds from this event raised will specifically go towards the Barnardos Beyond Barbed Wire program, a specialist program that helps incarcerated mothers to reconnect with their families and communities.
After receiving an overview of the Peter Pan Op Shop and the Barnardos programs it supports, our volunteers were allocated tasks. Some helped to set up the sale, sorting and pricing stock, and others assisted customers on the first day of the sale when the doors opened to a queue of eager bargain hunters.
Volunteering days, such as the Peter Pan Op Shop, provide an opportunity for organisations to demonstrate corporate social responsibility. They also enable our volunteers to meet colleagues from across the Mutuals sector, while enjoying a rewarding day helping the community.
The Australian Mutuals Foundation offers volunteering opportunities to Mutuals, Credit Unions, Building Societies and Co-operatives. To find out how to get involved, please contact us.
